Your Mindset is Your Most Powerful Healing Tool

When was the last time you told yourself that you were proud of yourself?

Or that you felt grateful to be in your own skin?

For many of us, it might be hard to remember the last time we spoke to ourselves with kindness.

Thinking positively doesn’t always come naturally to us, but what we often forget is how powerful our mindset can be in shaping our lives.

When we’re born, we naturally live in a state of abundance. We don’t question our worth, and we don’t put ourselves down. But as we grow, we’re influenced by the world around us, and over time, we can begin to believe we’re not good enough.

Many of us fall into this negative feedback loop, where we’re constantly feeding our subconscious mind with negative thoughts and limiting beliefs. This can keep us stuck in a state of lack — impacting our confidence, self-esteem and overall sense of self.

We then begin to seek validation externally — through people-pleasing, overworking, or even habits like emotional eating, shopping or alcohol.

These things might feel good in the moment… but they never quite fill that deeper void.

Sound familiar?

This was me a few years ago.

I felt completely disconnected from my body. I dreaded looking in the mirror, constantly noticing new breakouts, and my confidence was at an all-time low. From the outside, people most likely assumed I was happy. But what was going on inside was a totally different story.

I would cancel plans because of how I looked, and I found myself chasing things externally to feel better — buying new skincare, drinking at the weekends, anything to escape how I felt.

But no matter what I did, that feeling of something missing was always there.

And the truth is… nothing external could fix that.

Because what I needed to heal wasn’t outside of me. It was internal. It was my mindset, and the way I was speaking to myself every single day.

This is when I discovered meditation, and began to understand how powerful our thoughts truly are.

I realised just how often I was putting myself down — telling myself I wasn’t good enough, criticising my skin, and reinforcing a constant state of lack. These thoughts were signalling to my body that I wasn’t safe. And when the body doesn’t feel safe, it stays in a state of stress — also known as “fight or flight”.

Over time, this can impact our hormones, our skin, and our overall health.

Looking back, part of me wishes I had known this sooner…but another part of me feels deeply grateful for the journey.

Because now, I’m able to support others who may be feeling or going through the same.

Healing isn’t just about nutrition or what we eat.

It’s mutli-faceted.

Your mindset is one of your most powerful healing tools — and one of your greatest allies.

The way you speak to yourself matters.

The way you see yourself matters.

And the more you begin to believe in yourself, the more your reality begins to shift with it too.

Simple mindset shifts to support your healing:

  • Gratitude journaling: Start your day by writing down 3 things you’re grateful for. This helps shift your mindset from a state of lack to abundance.

  • Positive affirmations: While getting ready or brushing your teeth, speak kindly to yourself in the mirror. Even simple phrases like “I am enough” or “I am strong” can begin to rewire your thoughts.

  • Shifting your perspective: When something doesn’t go to plan, try to reframe it. Instead of self-criticism, remind yourself that things may be unfolding in your favour.

  • Sleep hypnosis: Listening to guided hypnosis before bed can help reprogram your subconscious mind while you sleep. (There are some great free resources available online, Marisa Peer is a personal favourite!).

As a nutritionist and behaviour change coach, I support you in learning how to work with your mindset — not against it.

Because your mindset isn’t something that holds you back... it’s something that, when nurtured, can support you in truly healing and reaching your full potential.
